We have two elderly dogs, a cat, and two overweight humans living in a two bedroom-two bath condo in the middle of the city of houston! Now we have an adorable, but very rowdy, 3-4 month rescue mountain cur living with us and herding everything in sight. She is also hunting our poor cat, who has decided it is better to live outside in the heat during the day, and sneak into the air at night when Amber (that's her name) goes to bed in her crate.
Here's the story. Last week a dog-loving friend got a call from a neighbor about a puppy that was tied to a tire around her waist at a radiator shop on their street with no food or water in over 100 degree heat in Houston. I got a call because I'm off in the summer (a teacher) and I could come get the dog if they got it and take it to a shelter. I waited to see. They tried to get the Fire Dept. guys right down the street to cut the bolt but instead the good guys climbed over the fence, retied her and gave her some food and water. Needless to say, she was so happy they did!
The next morning I was called to come get the adorable thing and I did. Once I saw her face it was love at first sight. I called my husband, who is the doctor doolittle of the neighborhood, and he said, "don't send her to the shelter-let's foster her" so we did. Needless to say we did not know what we were getting into.
At first I thought she was a brindle bull terrier/shepherd mix b/c she looks like a dog we adopted from a shelter for my parents about 6 years ago. We took Amber to the Vet for a checkup and her first set of puppy shots, etc. and the vet told us she was a Catahoula leopard. We looked that up on the internet and said, well maybe, and we contacted the Catahoula rescue society in Texas with pictures. They said, "no, she's a mountain curr dog" and sure enough we got on another blog and saw many just like her.
The problem is her breed. We can't give her what she needs. She needs to run, run, run, and hunt, hunt, hunt. It would be such a shame if she had to go to a shelter and be returned over and over b/c people could not handle her possessive, hunting, active nature! I have attached some adorable pictures of her but don't let her looks deceive you. She is a handful and I'm here all day and as soon as my husband comes in the door he takes over until she goes to bed at night. Please help me find this beautiful creature a good home!
